Summary/Intro

Windows service is a long-running executable that does detailed functions. A service is programmed to do a particular task without disrupting the normal run of other programs used in the computer.  It does not need any user intervention to make it run. Windows service makes the operating system stable and efficient. It starts when the Windows operating system is booted up and will run in the background as long as Windows is not logged off or turned off. It can also be started or paused anytime the user wants to. But typically a service will run unnoticed to the user. Also, Windows services are typically used on servers because they do not interfere with other users functioning on the same computer.

Full Details - Body

Windows service is a long-running executable that does detailed functions. A service is programmed to do a particular task without disrupting the normal run of other programs used in the computer.  It does not need any user intervention to make it run. Windows service makes the operating system stable and efficient. It starts when the Windows operating system is booted up and will run in the background as long as Windows is not logged off or turned off. It can also be started or paused anytime the user wants to. But typically a service will run unnoticed to the user. Also, Windows services are typically used on servers because they do not interfere with other users functioning on the same computer.

Services that run in the background are stored in the system registry. Windows registry is the directory where the functions of every task of the system are stored. The registry gives a porthole to the operating system’s kernel. It shows runtime information such as the current hardware installed and its detailed settings. It also has information on performance counters.

So whenever a change is made in Windows services, it would be reflected in the registry. Sometimes when changes are made in the service, the older registry entry pertaining to that particular service would not be deleted resulting to redundant entries. So when the service is running within the system, all the entries related to that particular service would be called upon by the operating system. This will result in a slowdown in the performance of the computer hence a noticeable decrease in the processing speed of the entire system. From time to time, to maintain an excellent working machine, a registry cleaner must be used to clean up the changes made in the registry. When you notice the boot up and shut down speed of the computer is longer than the typical time for it to do so, chances are your registry need to be clean as soon as possible. The sooner a scan is made, the better your chance of saving and prolonging the life span of your computer.

Changes made during the time the computer is running will be saved in the registry whenever the system shuts down. The shut down speed is determined by the size of the registry. So a longer shut down time means the registry is large. This is true to boot up time as well. Sometimes the registry might contain entries that are already obsolete but would still exist due to an erroneous procedure. These obsolete entries should be deleted to hasten up the processing of the system. Entries could also be redundant. Sometimes entries are saved twice into the registry. This could not be avoided at times. But it can be corrected. A good registry cleaner can detect and erased these registry errors. To have a peace of mind and a wonderfully working Windows based personal computer, you must use a registry cleaner regularly. This is a habit that must be practiced to have a well-maintained machine
